Times are tough right now, we’re all left in the dark and we don’t know when we’ll have more information. How can we protect ourselves and more importantly, how can we prepare for the worst? One of the best things to do in a time of crisis is to maintain a healthy food supply – this means stocking up on non-perishables. If you’ve ever been camping you know exactly what that means…food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated or food easily cooked over a fire.
Having pasta, for example, is a great food to stock up well for a long period of time. Chef Bruno ensures his communities can still have their pasta with some homemade deliveries. But this alone may not be enough, and you must be sure to have other foods handy. We suggest stocking up on some of the following food items:
Grains
Whether it be soft grains like barley or quinoa, or hard grain such as wheat, there’s no question grains are a must-have in your pantry, as their shelf life can last up to 8 – 12 years when stored properly. For maximum shelf life, aim for sealed packages that have an oxygen absorber.
Rice
White rice can last up to 20 years if stored in ideal condition, and although brown rice is much healthier than white, it does not last as long as white rice.
Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter is one of the best tubs to have in your pantry for many reasons! It’s packed with a ton of protein by itself or as an ingredient. Peanut butter is great for snacks and a variety of meals too! It has enough protein for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or just peanut butter. Go get some peanut butter now before it runs out.
Dehydrated Meat
Beef Jerky wasn’t just for the road trips, it’s a good food to keep in your storage too! Dehydrated meat is similar to peanut butter because it can be a snack or a meal.
Beans
Canned beans can likely stay good for up to 6 years if stored under the best conditions, possibly longer. They’re a great add-on to all sorts of homemade recipes with some of your stored goods.
Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds are other good sources of protein to keep around for snacks. It’s important to keep your body healthy when times are chaotic. It’s smart to fill your body with natural and organic nuts and seeds, rather than chips or crackers. By filling your body with natural snacks you will fill full longer and more refreshed!
Multi-vitamins
One of the most important things to keep away in your storage is multi-vitamins. Multi-vitamins are a great way to get all the nutrients you need in just one pill! They even offer multivitamin gummies that don’t go bad either! Try the gummies now and start filling your body with nutrients.
