Caterina’s Club & the 10th Annual KFI Pastathon

As with everything in this crazy, COVID-impacted year, the Annual KFI Pastathon was  a little different this year. The Pastathon, which is the largest single yearly fundraiser for Caterina’s Club, a 501 (c) (3) charity, was held virtually on December 1st – 4th. Normally, the KFI radio station holds a one-day, live radiothon from Christ Cathedral Church in Orange, but safety protocols prevent us from that option.  While we’ll all miss the fun and excitement, our focus remains on the mission, and the need is greater this year than ever.

Our mission

Numerous children are deemed food insecure, and they live right here in our local communities. Many live with their families in low-cost motels with little or no access to kitchen facilities and no opportunity for a hot meal. In attempting to break the cycle of poverty, we have been providing as many as 1 million meals to the community each year.

The need

Thanks to the generosity of our friends and the efforts of the good folks at KFI, we are supplied with the resources to prepare the meals. The fundraising in a typical year will buy basics like pasta and sauce to last throughout the next year, but due to increased community need because of the pandemic, we were out of supplies in August, and the need continues to grow. We will meet our commitment and fulfill the greater need, but we ask you to help.

Our impact

The week marked a truly remarkable community effort, as we raised a grand total $770,827! We also obtained an impressive amount  of 75,980 lbs of pasta and sauce, which results in roughly 25,000 meals a week for our program.

Thank you. We could not do what we do without your continued support. If you’d like to contribute more to our programs, you can learn more here.
